As GATE 2018 result is out and students who qualified these exams but not get good rank by any reason and the students who are preparing first time for the above exams wants to know how should we prepare so that we may also get good rank in GATE IES and PSUs exam.
Today we are with Shivam Singh who secured AIR 14 in GATE 2018 in Civil engineering branch.
Shivam Singh is a Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh 2017 Passout student and he is from Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh).
Shivam Singh first of all congratulation for securing all India rank 14 in GATE 2018.
Kindly tell us about yourself. From where did you done your engineering and from which branch?
My name is Shivam Singh. I did my schooling and engineering from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. I am a native of Aligarh, Uttar pradesh. I graduated in June 2017..
You are from Civil Engineering. How much did you score in GATE 2018?
My rank in gate 2018 is 14. My normalized marks is 86.38 and my gate score is 945..
What was your routine while preparing for the exam and how much time did you took to cover your syllabus?.
It took me around 6 months to prepare for gate. I used to pick up the subject which is running in the class. Along with it I used to revise one more subject.
Revision is must for gate because you have to reproduce whatever you have studied in those three hours of exam time. you must have sound knowledge of every basic concepts and you must have 1500 formulae on your tips to succeed.
Remember to make formula copy of your own. One common mistakes that students do is they just mug up the formula without going deep for each and every symbol in formulae. learn the practical applications by solving as much questions as you can. Practice mock tests more and more..
Books you followed during preparation?
I used to follow my coaching notes, question booklets, previous years question papers and mock tests. Along with it, I have downloaded different coaching notes from crackon.in/blog because from just one notes, you cant cover each and every concepts. Try to cover as many types of questions as you can.
Because you are a topper this year so everyone wants to know how much time you devote for this exam?
I advise all the juniors that you have enough time. start from basics. join two or three test series. Give part syllabus basic tests during preparation of a particular subject. In last one and a Half month, do as much full syllabus tests as you can. See yourself where you stand in the competition.
Try to improve your mistake. Avoid repeating the same mistakes. Do practice on gate scientific calculator.
Read, Revise, Practice and Repeat.
All the best for all the viewers..
