I am doing majors in civil engineering, I am from IIT Roorkee (2014-18 Batch). My hometown is Agra. In GATE 2018 civil engineering paper I secured AIR 14.

You are from Civil Engineering. How much did you score in GATE 2018?

My all India rank in gate 2018 is 14, My marks are 86.48/100 and my GATE 2018 score is 945/1000.

Kindly tell us what was the prime motivation to prepare for Civil Engineering GATE 2018.

Well GATE is a prestigious exam for Engineering graduates. It gives a opportunity to peruse post graduation from reputed colleges like IISc Banglore and IITs and side by side PSUs recruitment was also the main reason for my hard work.

So have you applied for PSUs under Civil Engineering GATE 2018.

Yes I applied for IOCL, HPCL, PGCIL, NLC and few other PSUs.

Because you are a topper this year so everyone wants to know how much time you devote for this exam?

First of all I want to clear that I do self study. I started my preparation from 18 August 2017, I completed my major subjects by Oct mid.

Time was very less for my preparation so I first ordered Made Easy postal course so I don’t have to read full books and joined test series of different institutes.

Every week before test series I tried to complete my syllabus of a particular subject, I refer coaching topper notes also for my preparation.

During initial phase I used to study 2-3 hours but in December-January I was giving 12-13 Hours for GATE 2018.

Have you take any coaching?

No, I only use Made Easy postal material to save my time, I joined test series and topper notes.

Share your strategies with you junior who are reading this interview, like what is the ideal time to prepare for this exam and schedule.

First divide your preparation strategy in 3 phases. In phase one (3 Months) use topper notes and coaching material. Solve previous year questions. In second phase follow the same process and make short notes, 10-12 pages notes of each subject in which you must write important formulas and tricky points, revise these notes daily and do GATE previous year papers.

Third stage is very important, in this stage give test series on alternative days, before test series revise your subject and add new points in your short notes. After giving test series again add few points if you are not able to solve any question due to concept problem.

I started my Math and Apti preparation from December and 1-1.5 hrs daily was sufficient for me. Follow youtube if you are feeling difficulty in any subject.

Share some valuable points one should know if preparing for GATE exam.

GATE is the game of accuracy, there is no room for silly mistakes. Mock tests are also very important, they will help you to check your knowledge and to revise the syllabus. Do previous year questions also. In GATE questions are not repeated but previous year questions will help you to analyze the standard of questions asked in GATE. Use different sources to practice more questions.
